Drinking and Driving

Taking Action

To stop Drinking and Driving, we have to take small steps. A lot of the accidents involving drunk driving are from underage drinkers. The only way to acoid this is staying clean of alcohol (and drugs). Because of the lack of experience of teenage drivers, the only way to do this is abstinence of alcohol. D.A.R.E. alerts kids of the dangers of alcohol. It brings them to realize the heath risks and how addicting it is. In public schools, kids are usually enrolled in D.A.R.E. in their early junior high years. D.A.R.E. can also help a parent on ways to talk to their teen about drinking and the risks.
If drinking has already effected you and you've came to the conclusion that you need help quitting, Alcholics Annonymous may be for you. "Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism" (Alcoholics Anonymous). AA, for short, is not only for a certain sect, political group, gender, or race. They promise to help anyone enrolled in the program. AA says that their only hope is to steer people away from alcohol. If AA sounds helpful for you, click here to find an AA meeting near you.
Another organization against Druk Driving is Mothers Against Drunk Driving. If you would like to make a difference in people's lives, alert other's of the dangers of drinkign and driving, and talk to kids about it, you could join MADD. Their website also has a lot of tools involving drinking and driving, including seeing where our state ranks on drunk driving and what we can do about it. MADD also gives shocking facts about drinking and driving. One that i found shocking was that the average drunk driver driver 87 times drunk before their first arrest ("MADD"). To get involved, call 877-ASK-MADD.
