Drinking and Driving

The Danger Behind Drinking and Driving

Picture
Driving either while drunk or intoxicated is very dangerous. Not only is it dangerous to the driver themself, it's risking other people's lives on the road too. In the United States, someone is killed in an alcohol-related motor vehicle crash every 15 minutes (Every 15 Minutes). In Michigan alone, drunk driving killed 360 people in 2009. Another 7,400 individuals were injured in that same year by drunk drivers ("Drunk Driving Accident Facts").  In 2008, around 40,000 were arrested for driving drunk and 262 fatal accidents occurred just in Michigan ("Michigan Drunk Driving Statistics").
Despite these statistics and the amount of people who are charged with DUIs, people continue to consume over the legal limit and get behind the wheel.  "An estimated 40% of all persons in the United States will be involved in a traffic mishap blamed on alcohol at some point in their lives"(T, Buddy). The only way to stop these statistics is to stop drinking and driving all together. Don't guess if you're over the limit or under, it's not worth risking your life and paying to consequences.
Below is a video created by high school students to alert their peers of the result of drinking and driving. If a person consumes alcohol and claims to not be drunk, they have still consumed alcohol and are at risk of getting in an accident. Don't drink and drive. You can't afford to risk your life and pay the consequences.
